Two by-elections today
The Liberal Party faces a challenge to hold onto two blue-ribbon electorates today in by-elections brought on by the retirements of the former Treasurer, Peter Costello, and former Minister for Defence, Dr Brendan Nelson.
Voters will go to the polls this morning in Bradfield, NSW and Higgins, VIC to elect replacements for these gentlemen who served distinguished terms under the stewardship of former Prime Minister, John Howard, with Mr Costello noted for being the Nation's longest-serving and most successful Treasurer.
It is likely that Liberal will hold on to both seats, seen by many as a poll on the public's approval of the new Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott. I also believe it will be a poll on the farce we experience now with a Labor government at both state and federal level.
A timely reminder to voters in Bradfield and Higgins - voting is compulsory.
