Bigpond closes but the jostling escalates
A bidding war has broken out between four IRC networks for the right to host the most chatters from the Bigpond network which is earmarked for a cataclism inside two weeks and the Induced network seems to have gained the most and also seems to be holding ground against a few new servers that have sprung up, including one co-staffed by sammee, who claims to be leaving the chat scene shortly although going by her efforts this does not seem to be the case.
On another note there is a lot of pork pies being told by a number of people, including sammee who has accused me of being abusive when this is clearly not the case. It is a desperation move by someone who faces the humiliation of watching Bigpond Chat crumble into rubble on her own watch.
Whilst I don't really see it as a big deal and it was a long time ago now, one thing I can say I am proud of is that on my watch, Bigpond Chat was a force to be reckoned with. When the shit hit the fan I, along with two other Bigpond opers, brought knowledge, experience and professionalism to a new network and four years later that dedication is paying off.
Below is a photo showing some of the proof. A juggernaut, consisting of five enterprise-grade rack servers, two desktop boxes and four uninterruptible power supplies, all up worth about $80,000 provides the backbone for the all-powerful Death Star. This leviathan hosts websites, including this one, e-mail, DNS and IRC. It gets bigger though. This is only one of five similar setups located across New South Wales and Victoria.

This power is not matched by any competitor as they are either running less-powerful machines or they are hosting their chat on a server outside Australia which means chatters experience more lag and latency, slowing down their chat session more than it should be.
Over the next week or so I will be pasting some interesting logs, some taken by me and some provided to me by others and I want to assure you they provide for some very interesting reading.
The sad thing for Induced's competitors is that they can't afford to buy what we have.
