Apple Computer Corporation is seeking to take legal action against Woolworths because they believe that the new Woolworths logo breaches their apple trademark.
See both the Apple and Woolworths logos and the story surrounding the controversy here.
Despite my disgust about many of Woolworths' business practices I hope they win this battle. For years Apple has been too hasty to act against anyone using a logo that even barely resembles an apple but as you can see on this occasion, like most of the others, the difference between the two logos is quite distinct.
It is also a fair comment that many people, particularly older people, don't even know of Apple Computer Corporation or their products. For a company who's market share in the computer industry ranks at around 3% (I'm being generous here) Apple is taking their logo too much to heart. Woolworths on the other hand has a 40% market share in their core area of business - running the country's largest chain of supermarkets.
