Logo madness strikes again - courtesy of the Labor Party
The image below on the left is the Coat of Arms of the State of New South Wales. The image next to it is is supposed to be the new corporate logo for the New South Wales Government which is supposed to include an image of the state's floral emblem, the waratah. The waratah is a flower that grows on a stalk up to three metres in height and has long, narrow petals.
The New South Wales Government and the designer of the new logo have shown how little they know about waratahs by making what is supposed to be a waratah look like a lotus, a flower native to India.
Without getting into the same arguments that have unfolded in the mass-media I will simply ask why we need this new logo? Apart from looking bland and stupid it is not necessary. NSW Premier, Nathan Rees, said last week that the new logo was part of an exercise to improve the Government's image.
I have bad news for Mr Rees. The new logo has made the people surrounding the creation and implementation of this logo look like idiots.
The NSW Coat of Arms has been around for about 103 years, looks great, costs the Government nothing to use on its buildings and letterheads and costed nothing to design and implement. The Coat of Arms is also a better representation of responsible government than any silly logo could ever be.
NSW is a sovereign state. Why is our government shunning the Coat of Arms for a stupid-looking logo that cost $150,000 and implemented for all the wrong reasons? Premier Rees and his government have a poor image because they are not giving the electorate what they want and need. Labor's deplorable service delivery standards have nothing to do with a previous absence of a fancy logo that looks nothing like what it is supposed to represent.
Mr Rees: Get rid of this garbage and forget about your bad image and Labor's bad reputation and get back to running the state. If I was Mr Rees I would also be keeping a date in my head - the 26th March, 2011. This date is when the next general elections in NSW will be.
