Browser Requirements

Our ethos dictates that you should be able to visit a website in any late-version web browser and be able to view it and use as much functionality on the site as possible, no matter what your choice of web browser is. To this end, iServ will work the same way in the latest versions of Windows Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Safari, Opera, Camino and Firefox, along with any other web browser distributed in the last twelve months since this version of iServ was published.

We don't subscribe to the notion that opting for a preference for one specific brand makes life easier for people. Far too many websites now dictate what brand of web broswer you should be using. This is wrong for site visitors and it is bad for the Internet because it reduces freedom of choice.

When I decided to ensure that iServ will work in all web browsers I got laughed at and ridiculed by a few people who said that my goals could not be easily achieved and that my goals brought harm to the development of web standards. So what? At the end of the day a web site owner wants only one thing - for people to be happy with what they see. If a site presents itself well, is formatted correctly and contains worthwhile content then the goal has been achieved. Because iServ is viewable in all browsers and has proven to be so for a long time, now I am doing the laughing for standing up for my principles and for the deafening silence I hear from those who cast shadows over my chances of success.

The bottom line is this: If you use a web browser version that has been authored since the 1st January 2006, with Java and JavaScript enabled then you will be getting the best possible experience from your time on iServ. Naturally, older type browsers like Linx, Arachne and Konqueror will have trouble but you shouldn't be using old software for security reasons anyway. :-p
